St. Mark’s Physical Education / Health Teacher is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School. The primary function of this position is to provide students an opportunity to learn about and participate in developing physical skills, exercise, knowledge relating to overall general health and maintenance, knowledge of various sports and games, as well as fair play and sportsmanship. 

 

Duties: 

  • Develop effective lesson plans to teach physical education appropriate to the age or grade level.
  • Instruct students on the importance of regular amounts of appropriate physical activity now and throughout life. 
  • Assess the skill level of students and provide differentiated instruction for various abilities and levels of fitness. 
  • Explain and enforce safety rules governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of sports and exercise equipment. 
  • Document attendance, grades and other records. 
  • Participate in school meetings and in-service activities. 
  • Maintain professional competence by engaging in professional development. 
  • Participate in and/or support student and parent activities designed to involve the faculty and staff. 
  • Teach a variety of CPR classes to new employees and those requiring recertification.
  • Other duties assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • This position requires additional duties as Head Coach for the School’s Volleyball program and as the lead health instructor.
 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year or more teaching experience. 
 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Work in a sometimes highly demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges. 
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time with agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
  • Work primarily in a mix of a climate controlled gym as well as intermittently in outside weather

conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
