At. St. Mark’s Episcopal School, a Pre-kindergarten Teacher plays a key role for the students, families, and faculty in the Primary School Division. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an appropriate Pre-kindergarten instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Duties:
- Maintain play and center-based learning as integral components of the Pre-kindergarten classroom.
- Develop, create and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that teach the foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, writing, social studies, and thematic unit studies.
- Integrate Rice Literacy components in the classroom in the planning and scheduling of daily activities.
- Regularly assess and evaluate student progress through observation, student work and use of provided assessment tools.
- Communicate student progress in a professional manner through appropriate internal and external avenues for transparency and trust in parent partnerships.
- Create a positive and safe learning environment where children feel safe, respected, and encouraged to learn and explore.
- Help children develop social skills and support their emotional growth using the Conscious Discipline approach in an organized classroom space.
- Rotate materials, arrangement of classroom and displays of student work to create an inviting learning environment with active student engagement.
- Work collaboratively with the Pre-kindergarten team, other teachers, staff and administrators to develop curriculum, share best practices, and support students.
- Supervise students’ work and play as a high priority to protect the students’ health and safety.
- Maintain professional development appropriate for Pre-kindergarten students i.
- Competent in Google Suite.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings, school sponsored events and celebrations.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Primary School.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
