Farmer UPenn Teaching Fellowship

Job Description

The Farmer UPenn Teaching Fellowship at St. Mark’s School

St Mark’s School seeks innovative and dynamic candidates to fill two Teaching Fellowship positions starting in June 2025. Farmer UPenn Fellows commit to teach and participate fully in life at St. Mark’s for two years while working toward a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Fellows work closely with a mentor teacher in their academic discipline to develop and revise curriculum, and they engage in regular cycles of observation and feedback. In addition, Fellows receive support from the Program Director, Department Head, and Dean of Faculty. Fellows also contribute to our vibrant boarding school community through coaching, advising, and residential and community life responsibilities.

Students in the Independent School Teaching Residency (ISTR) program belong to a collaborative cohort of teaching fellows from partner schools, attending several on-site sessions each year either at UPenn or other consortium schools. The blended on-site and online degree curriculum follows three strands during the two-year program: Teaching and Learning; History, Culture; and Social Contexts; and Reflective Practice. Applicants must meet the GPA requirements specified by the Penn GSE program to receive an offer from St. Mark’s School and gain admission into the ISTR program. More information can be found at the ISTR website.

About St. Mark’s School

St. Mark's School is a coed, private boarding high school of approximately 375 students with a strong, college preparatory curriculum located 22 miles west of Boston and 12 miles east of Worcester. St. Mark's School educates young people for lives of leadership and service. Founded in 1865 as an intentionally small residential community, the School challenges its students to develop their particular analytic and creative capabilities by both inspiring their academic and spiritual curiosity and kindling their passion for discovery. We value cooperation over self-interest, and we encourage all members of our community to explore their place in the larger world beyond our campus.

St. Mark's School provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability or genetics, and any other characteristic or status protected by law.
