Position Summary:
St. Mark's School seeks a skilled and creative Spanish teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience teaching multiple levels of high school Spanish. They will be highly collaborative and committed to using communicative teaching strategies as well as inclusive, developmentally appropriate pedagogies to engage our community of learners. By equipping our students with the foundational skills of communication, critical thinking, and intercultural competence, we advance our goal of preparing students for their future. Educators with these skills and the desire to contribute to a vibrant boarding school community through coaching, advising, and residential life are encouraged to apply.
As a Spanish teacher, you will be a member of the modern and classical languages department and report to the head of the department and the assistant head of school/ dean of faculty. We invite interested candidates to apply by completing an application on the St. Mark’s School Employment page.
What You’ll Do as a St. Mark’s Spanish Teacher:
As a St. Mark’s faculty member, you will teach four Spanish courses, advise three to six students, attend all-school and faculty-required events, coach two seasons of sports. Other key responsibilities are as follows:
- Support students' development of communicative competencies in Spanish along with intercultural skills and mindsets
- Provide students in the classroom with timely, ongoing, and meaningful feedback, including comments for each student at the end of grading periods
- Support a residential house team by supervising evening hours once weekly and five Saturday nights per year
- Participate in St. Mark’s Experiential Learning Programming
- Teach one season of Saturday classes
- Teach a Lion Term course
- Participate in community life through Social Duty (four weekends per year)
- Give up to six admission tours per year
Required Skills and Abilities
- A degree in Spanish or a related, interdisciplinary field is essential
- Native or near-native language skills in Spanish and English
- Ability to teach Spanish language and literature from beginning to advanced levels
- Familiarity with contemporary research-backed best practices in language teaching, including concepts like comprehensible input, ACTFL proficiency standards, and language acquisition
- Enthusiasm for work with adolescent students in multiple contexts
- Outstanding task and time management skills with high attention to detail
- Strong leadership, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proficiency with computer applications such as Google Suite including Docs, Slides, and Sheets
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience designing and delivering assessments and curriculum materials in Spanish.
- Native or near-native language skills in Spanish and English.
- Capable of working with beginning through advanced language learners and should have a facility with collaborative curriculum design and communicative teaching pedagogies
- Willingness and ability to chaperone international trips with students during spring break and/ or summer
- Experience in an educational setting, including familiarity with residential communities and the needs of adolescents
- Success working with culturally diverse populations as well as a commitment to inclusive pedagogy
- Commitment to continuous self-reflection and professional growth

- Years of experience between 31 and 40 years: $90,100 - $94,900
- Years of experience between 21 and 30 years: $70,890 - $89,850
- Years of experience between 11 and 20 years: $56,670 - $68,900
- Years of experience between 0 and 10 years: $27,810 - $53,770
