PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK
This person acts as an assistant to the Animal Services Coordinator and is responsible for the overall care of animals within the shelter. This position is also expected to provide constant cleanliness of cages, runs, and shelter areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (NOTE: These examples are intended only to illustrate the various types of work performed by incumbents in this class. All duties performed by any one incumbent may not be listed.)
- Animal Services Agent serves as an assistant to the Animal Services Coordinator and is responsible for the following:
- Cleans animal shelter and holding area in clinic
- Prepares and administers daily medication to shelter animals
- Assists coordinator with daily rounds; performing blood draws, testing, setting up medications
- Prepares diets for animals
- Administers intake vaccines and medications for all new animals received
- Answers phone calls and be able to answer or assist the public with questions
- Walks the public through the shelter to view animals available for adoption
- Have adequate knowledge of Petpoint to be able to input animals and process adoptions
- Assist with temperament testing animals prior to adoption
- Transport animals outside normal working hours - ie. SMPG Vehicle
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Knowledge of animals grooming and healthcare needs
- Ability to interact with animals
- Ability to recognize behavior signals and needs
- Ability to use initiative, discretion, and judgement within established procedures, guidelines, and rules
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from the Animal Services Coordinator and performs the duty assignments within broad parameters defined by organizational requirements and accepted practices.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 per hour
