What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at St. Mary Academy-Bay View?
St. Mary Academy-Bay View is seeking a full-time special education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The person in this position will be helping to launch the Purcell
Promise, a new program at Bay View that supports complex learners. These students require more extensive support and will have a modified curriculum and pathway at Bay
View. The candidate will also be responsible for assisting with academic support to students in grades 6 through 12. Candidates must be committed to an all-girls and Mercy
education.
Responsibilities:
● Work with the Director of Academic Support and the Purcell Promise Program to create and implement the Purcell Promise curriculum and lessons;
● Help oversee and implement Individualized Service Plans for students with IEPs or 504 Plans;
● Work directly with students who need executive functioning support: organization, planning, prioritizing, and following through on tasks;
● Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, and parents to understand students’ emerging needs, communicate progress, and coordinate plans;
● Participate in school meetings;
● Work with regular education teachers in a team effort to plan curriculum and student support;
● Develop a cadre of “sister” students to partner with students in the new program for students with more significant learning differences.

Education and Experience Requirements:
● A masters degree in Special Education or Reading Specialist preferred; and
● Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
