Teacher Job Description

I. POSITION TITLE:

Teacher
Department: Catholic Schools
Grade: 4th Grade
Supervisor: Principal or Designee

II. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under the supervision of the principal, the teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education. The teacher is responsible for teaching 4th-grade. The teacher collaborates with the grade-level partner teacher to ensure a cohesive educational experience, develops and implements instructional programs aligned with the Diocesan Curriculum Standards, integrates faith into the curriculum, and fosters a faith-filled, positive learning environment. The teacher is encouraged to utilize the provided curriculum while incorporating additional resources that best meet the needs of the students. They also maintain accurate records, build positive school-community relationships, and engage in professional development to stay current with academic and religious certifications. Additional job-related tasks may be assigned by the principal.

III. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Faith and Catholic Education:

  • Models Catholic values and incorporates the Catholic philosophy of education.
  • Promotes and lives gospel values and Catholic moral teachings.
  • Upholds and integrates the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Facilitates opportunities for faith formation, prayer, and spiritual growth in the classroom.
  • Teaches Religion curriculum in accordance with Diocesan standards.
  • Demonstrates Catholic living through personal example.

Subject Instruction:

  • Develops and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons.
  • Collaborates with the grade-level partner teacher to align teaching strategies, assessments, and projects.
  • Utilizes the provided curriculum as the foundation for instruction, supplementing with additional resources to meet diverse student needs.
  • Integrates Catholic teachings and values into instruction when applicable.
  • Incorporates hands-on activities and technology into instruction.
  • Aligns lessons and assessments with the Diocesan Curriculum Standards.
  • Teaches Religion to homeroom students, fostering understanding of Catholic doctrine, scripture, and moral teachings.

Classroom Leadership and Management:

  • Creates a positive and respectful learning environment that supports academic and spiritual growth.
  • Organizes and manages the classroom to optimize student learning and engagement.
  • Ensures the safety, welfare, and care of students during school hours.
  • Builds a strong sense of Catholic community within the homeroom and school.
  • Demonstrates fairness, respect, and consistency in interactions with students and families.
  • Maintains an effective daily and weekly schedule covering all curriculum areas.

Student Assessment and Progress Evaluation:

  • Assesses student performance using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Aligns assessments with Diocesan Curriculum Standards and instructional goals.
  • Provides constructive and timely feedback on student work and progress.
  • Maintains accurate grading and reporting systems for all subjects.
  • Submits required reports, attendance records, and statistics by deadlines.
  • Maintains detailed lesson plans to ensure instructional continuity.

Technology Integration:

  • Recognizes that the school is an Apple Distinguished School and integrates Apple technology into instruction to enhance student learning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and comfort with Apple products, including iPads and MacBooks, and uses these tools effectively in the classroom.
  • Incorporates technology creatively to engage students and support 21st-century skills.

School-Community Relationships:

  • Maintains positive and cooperative relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Communicates regularly with parents through conferences, meetings, and updates.
  • Promotes respectful and supportive interactions with students, families, and staff.
  • Participates in curricular and co-curricular programs and events.
  • Actively engages in school faculty meetings and in-service training sessions.

Professional Development:

  • Pursues ongoing professional growth in subjects, and teaching practices.
  • Participates in diocesan-sponsored training and certification programs.
  • Supports and engages in the school’s continuous improvement process.
  • Maintains personal records of professional development activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by the principal.

IV. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrates self-discipline, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Exercises good judgment in daily interactions and decision-making.
  • Communicates effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Displays an appropriate sense of humor and positive demeanor.
  • Shows understanding of effective teaching techniques.
  • Maintains professional grooming and attire in accordance with the faculty handbook.

V. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Faith: Preference is given to Catholic teachers. Non-Catholic candidates must support Catholic teachings and philosophy and be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Certification: Holds Arizona State Department of Education teaching certification and meets applicable accreditation standards.
  • Training:
    • Completed Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.
    • Holds FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
    • Meets Ministry Formation Certification and/or recertification as required by Diocesan policy.
