What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at St. Mary's/Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics?
Performs phlebotomy functions and non-technical duties in areas including the hospital laboratory, outpatient and clinic services.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, heal stick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure.
- Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
- Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing.
- Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure an orderly work flow.
- Follows hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times. Follows HIPAA regulations and policies.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
- Communicate with patients, families and co-workers in person, in writing and on telephone.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of phlebotomy experience, preferred
- Must be able to prioritize and multitask.
