What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water System Operator (Unlicensed) position at St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission?
- Operate water treatment/distribution and wastewater collection/pumping systems by monitoring, evaluating, adjusting and maintaining the equipment used in these systems
- Collect, transport and analyze water samples for compliance with a variety of water quality standards
- Troubleshoot and assist with the maintenance of a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment (i.e.: pumps, air compressors, chemical feed systems, metering devices, motor controls systems, valves, etc.)
- Maintain a variety of operational and maintenance logs, reports and other forms required for equipment history files, inventory control and regulatory monitoring and reporting of water quality standards and amount pumped
- Complete a variety of buildings and grounds maintenance duties at the numerous facilities owned and operated by MetCom
- Safely operate and maintain motor vehicles as well as farm, construction and lawn maintenance equipment that are used to operate and maintain the facilities
- Obtain and then maintain certifications in the classes required by the Certification Board for the area of responsibility assigned
Training and/or Education:
High schoo ldiploma or G.E.D. and two or more years of job-related experience
Experience:
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
Licenses or Certificates:
Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license, Class C

Work requires occasional strenuous effort. For example, bending and lifting tools, equipment, or materials of 30 to 60 pounds.
Unusual Demands:
Work involves high risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, or machines. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, goggles, boots and gloves; may require working in adverse weather conditions or confined workspaces. May be required to climb 20 feet.
