Job Summary :

The Director of Global Education and AP Psychology Teacher is a dual-role position that combines strategic leadership in global education with high-level teaching responsibilities. This position is vital in shaping students' understanding of global interconnectivity, fostering cultural competence, and providing a robust academic experience through the teaching of Advanced Placement Psychology. Reporting directly to the Associate Head of School, the Director works collaboratively with faculty, administration, and external partners to ensure the School's programs embody its mission to prepare students to be thoughtful, empathetic, and globally aware citizens.

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership in Global Education :

  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate a comprehensive global education strategy across divisions to ensure alignment with the school's mission.
  • Lead the Global Education Coordinators in creating innovative curricula and experiential learning opportunities that deepen students' understanding of global cultures, challenges, and perspectives.
  • Manage the Upper School Global Education Certificate program, guiding students in meeting certification requirements, including coursework, service projects, and global travel experiences.
  • Stay informed about best practices in global education, integrating them into school programs and sharing insights with faculty and staff.

Experiential Learning and Global Travel :

  • Design and manage all aspects of domestic and international travel opportunities, ensuring a balance of safety, educational value, and cultural immersion.
  • Develop risk management plans and monitor global conditions to ensure student and staff safety during off-campus programs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, parents, and faculty involved in travel programs, facilitating clear communication and preparation.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local and global organizations to create meaningful service-learning, internship, and exchange opportunities.
  • Teaching Responsibilities :

  • Teach Advanced Placement Psychology, fostering critical thinking and engagement with psychological theories and practices.
  • Develop and teach Global Education electives that align with the Global Education Certificate program and prepare students for global engagement.
  • Implement teaching methodologies that encourage active participation, cultural exploration, and a deeper understanding of global and societal issues.
  • Program Development and Community Engagement :

  • Champion a culture of global awareness and inclusion by organizing events, speakers, and activities that emphasize diverse perspectives and global challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions, Philanthropy, and Communications offices to promote the School's global education programs internally and externally.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty and staff in integrating global perspectives into their teaching and co-curricular activities.
  • Engage with the school community to promote environmental awareness and sustainability practices.
  • Qualifications :

  • Educational Background : A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Global Experience : Direct experience living and working internationally, ideally in the developing world, and knowledge of at least one foreign language is advantageous.
  • Teaching Expertise : Proven experience teaching psychology and / or global studies, with a passion for experiential, inquiry-based learning.
  • Leadership and Collaboration : Strong project management skills, with experience leading teams, managing budgets, and building partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Mission : A deep commitment to the principles of the School's Episcopal identity and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Communication Skills : Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the vision and value of global education programs.
  • Innovative Mindset : A creative, forward-thinking approach to program development and teaching, with an enthusiasm for girls' education.
