What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIETITIAN - CLINICAL NUTRITION position at St Mary's Healthcare System for Children?
The Dietitian plans, implements, evaluates and documents nutritional care based on facility policies, procedures and external regulatory standards through the application of the nutritional guidelines for residents ranging in age from 0- adolescence. Supports facility’s mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting facility standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Completes nutrition assessments and reassessments including documentation of changes on medical/nutritional progression or regression. Develops, implements and promotes quality, evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to meet each resident's assessed needs.
- Completes medical record documentation in accordance with facility and department guidelines.
- Provides nutritional care in accordance with the physician’s plan of treatment, accepted standards, department policies and procedures, and the Comprehensive Care Plan.
- Develops nutritional care plans and monitors resident diets. Includes application of principles relative to child/adolescent growth in developing nutrition care plans.
- Evaluates and documents the effectiveness and resident/family response to the nutritional intervention and progress of resident meeting set goals.
- Recommends changes in nutritional care relative to infants, children and adolescents to MD/NP and members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Assesses and identifies learning needs of resident and family; provides training and evaluate the level of learning.
- Documents learning needs assessment, training of resident and/or family performance in medical record.
- Functions as an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Team by collaborating with other team members assigned to the same resident. Initiates discussion/meetings among care plan team members for residents with complex care needs.
- Provides input into the design and implementation of cycle menus, special events, and other activities impacting the nutritional care of residents and staff.
- Educates other healthcare professionals in principles of nutrition and modifications of normal diet.
- Participates in unit rounds, wound rounds, care plan meetings, and family meetings for assigned units.
- Participates in the department quality improvement program.
- Educates and evaluates dietetic interns as appropriate.
Formal education required :
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred
Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration; or eligible to take RD exam with DI Verification Statement; must pass registration exam within 90 days of hire
NYS CD-N preferred
Previous experience:
Minimum of one year of health care experience preferred;
Pediatric and Long Term Care Experience; knowledge of MDS preferred.
Proficiency in computers; EMR experience a plus.
Bilingual a plus.
