Brief Description

The Director of Clinical Technology and Informatics is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, organizing and evaluating the clinical and operational data systems. H/she will demonstrate a knowledge base that includes an in depth understanding of assessment and documentation requirements in compliance with laws, and regulations. Works in conjunction with I.T. and clinical leadership to identify and prioritize learning needs, develop and implement plans to address the needs, create competencies and evaluate outcomes of interventions, with a focus on quality, safety, and staff development. This role requires vision and creativity to implement changes and establish accountabilities for personal and organizational success. Fosters practices consistent with the organization’s mission vision and values, and family-centered care. Collaborates with C-suite leaders to achieve mutual IT and Clinical related goals and objectives including established time frames.

Essential Duties

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads organizational efforts to improve data capture, analysis, and deployment.
  • Supports daily operations of the clinical technology on the Bayside campus, including EMR, VOIP, Pulse Oximetry, Asset Management, and other, by:
  • Serving as a clinical resource to integrate clinical practice with IT systems’ functionality and requirements.
  • Monitoring clinical staff proficiency with software and technology, providing remedial training as needed.
  • Conducting orientation and continuing training for employees for relevant data and clinical systems.
  • Establishing ongoing competency assessment tools and activities for clinical staff.
  • Leads the development and implementation of improved workflow and processes using the capabilities of the EMR application and clinical IT solutions. Leads development of screens for the EMR and serves as a gatekeeper for ongoing revisions.
  • Identifies electronic and technology information needs and develops an information enhancement plan designed to meet those needs, in collaboration with hospital leadership.
  • Creates, revises and updates department programs, policies and procedures as needed.
  • Leads development of clinical staff in documentation standards to comply with law, and regulation requirements, clinical and reimbursement.
  • Ensures back-up systems for medical records, including a paper medical record, as needed.
  • Identifies skills for annual competency testing; creates tools and methods for assessment; provides in service training.
  • Provides clinical oversight for the Unit Clerks related to the EMR and clinical IT; and administrative and clinical oversight for the Monitor Clerks.
  • Provides orientation of new employees and ongoing training of employees, as indicated.
  • Provides feedback to participants/management regarding the outcome of interventions/training/remediation developed in action plans and proactively re-assesses and plans for additional training of staff.
  • Keeps abreast of new advances in clinical technology and monitoring/communication systems and recommends changes to leadership; creates budget as requested.
  • Promotes efficient and effective use of clinical technology and information systems.
  • Participates in management planning and related workforce development & evaluation projects.
  • Advances opportunities for using technology and data to support clinical practice and clinical and managerial decision making.
  • Creates technology quality reports for administration.
  • Participates in RCA to ensure a comprehensive assessment of technology as both a contributing factor and Provides feedback to staff when opportunities for improvement/excellence are observed.
  • Participates in clinical record review to ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in DOH site survey activities to ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in long term and short and intermediate term planning for the system.
  • Coordinates customer friendly service. Investigates and resolves all customer complaints.
  • Submits written reports within established time frames.
  • Provides adequate opportunity for general staff training and education. Ensures that direct reports meet in-service requirements.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Non-essential Duties

  • Participates in the coordination and implementation of community partnerships regarding clinical technology.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Formal education required:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in clinical informatics.

Master’s Degree in informatics or equivalent work experience preferred

Certification in Informatics, preferred.

Previous Experience Required

Minimum of three (3) years Supervisory or Project Management experience.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in informatics or equivalent work experience preferred

Certification in Informatics, preferred.
