St. Mary's Head Boys' Soccer Coach

St. Mary’s School is excited to announce that we have begun the search for the next head coach to lead our boys’ soccer program. Our boys’ soccer program has had outstanding success over the past two decades. The head coach of our soccer program will serve as head coach of the varsity team and assist with coordinating all high school programs associated with their sport. The head coach reports directly to the athletic director. This is a seasonal coaching position.

  • Experience coaching high school soccer
  • Experience working with students and athletes in a coaching environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes and families
  • Ability to demonstrate various soccer techniques as needed during practices
  • A passion for sports and commitment to fostering a positive athletic experience for all participants
  • Familiarity with the principles of the Positive Coaching Alliance

Duties and Responsibilities of Boys’ Soccer Coach

As noted, the St. Mary’s head boy’s soccer coach will serve as head coach of the varsity team and assist with coordinating all upper school programs associated with their sport. The head coach is directly responsible to the athletic director. The St. Mary’s head boy’s soccer coach will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Organize, institute, and supervise a system of play that will be recognized as the St. Mary’s Athletic Department System for their respective sport. This system is to be consistent at all levels of the high school.
  • Organize, schedule, and conduct practice sessions designed to consider the welfare of the athletes, the coaching staff, and St. Mary’s School guidelines.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy, and rules of the sport.
  • Provide supervision of participants before and after all practices and contests.
  • Supervise the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Arrange in cooperation with the athletic director necessary transportation, finances, and travel itineraries for away contests.
  • Provide the school office and athletic department with a list of those students making athletic trips.
  • Be accountable for expenditures in accordance with procedures established by St. Mary’s School.
  • Organize the coaching staff so that assistant coaches have specific delegated duties, understand each expectation, and complete the assigned duties.
  • Operate within the current fiscal budget allowances for the sport.
  • Be responsible for the care of school equipment, supplies, and physical properties.
  • Inform the athletic director of practice and contest schedules.
  • Be responsible for the proper use and care of school facilities and equipment. Current records will be maintained on equipment used by each participant.
  • Issue and maintain records of uniforms, equipment, and athletic supplies. Current records will be maintained on equipment used by each participant. All athletic equipment will be properly stored and secured in an area designated by the athletic director.
  • Ensure that the player to whom equipment was issued returns that equipment or is billed for lost equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and cooperate productively with the entire sports public; i.e. staff, students, parents, administrators, media, etc.
  • Ensure that all athletes have met all registration and eligibility requirements prior to any participation.
  • Run clinics, camps and promote the St. Mary’s boy’s soccer program.
  • Submit the following to the athletic director:
  • An alphabetical team roster as soon as the team is determined and revise as necessary.
  • A team roster, with all necessary personal data, at least one week before the first contest (name, number, height, weight, position, grade, etc.) and keep the athletic director aware of any changes to the roster.
  • Submit to the athletic director within 4 days of the end of the season students earning varsity letters.
  • Assist the athletic director with the development of the non-league portions of the schedule for all levels of the sport.
  • Assist parent groups and athletic department in planning the end of the year team banquet.
  • Assist in the evaluation of assistant coaches’ performances by providing a summary of individual job expectations using assistant coaches evaluation form.
  • Attend league meetings dealing with their sport.
  • Perform other duties relating to his/her assigned athletic program designated by the athletic director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to pass an Oregon Department of Human Services background check
  • Current CPR/ First Aid Certified or become certified upon hire
  • Valid Oregon driver's license with acceptable driving record
