What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER position at St. Mary's School?
St. Mary's School has an immediate opening for an experienced Campus Security Officer to provide students, employees and the greater campus community with a safe and secure environment in which to learn and work.
The position is full-time, hourly, non-exempt working Monday - Friday with shifts ranging from 6:30am - 6:30pm. The Campus Security Officer may, on occasion, be asked to adjust their schedule in order to accommodate evening and weekend school activities.
Primary responsibilities:
- Provide quality service in protecting, safeguarding and securing the students, personnel, school assets and all visitors.
- Provide continuous physical and electronic monitoring of campus property including security inspections of all doors, windows, gates through regular and random walking patrols of the campus.
- Serve as a member of the school safety team.
- Arm / disarm secondary egress doors as needed for events.
- Maintain a security log of all incidents occurring during each shift.
- Monitor and resolve actions by visitors, drivers, employees, parents and students that could cause injury or loss to school or members of the school community.
- Monitor traffic flow and adherence to school parking procedures during and after school hours.
- Provide added security, coordinate necessary security volunteers (employees) and maintain a visible presence during special events.
- Provide assistance to employees, students and visitors when needed.
- When requested, escort employees who have worked late into the evening to their vehicles to ensure their safety.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the school's security requirements and safety practices.
- Report any safety concerns to the Facilities Manager so that repairs can be done immediately.
- Monitor appropriate control panels, alarms, and all related security equipment. Check fire, panic and security systems weekly to ensure proper operation. Notify Facilities Manager if repairs are necessary.
- Respond to all alarms.
- Assist the Director of Operations in the recommendation, development and implementation of improvements to safety and security procedures, equipment and systems.
- Maintain contact with School Administrators via cell phone or 2-way radio on matters of school safety and security.
- Conduct investigations and create written incident reports on all incidents involving the security and safety of students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors including suspicious activities, safety hazards, thefts, threats, break-ins, property damage, and injuries on campus, within 24 hours of the incident.
- Perform clerical functions incidental to security.
- Support the School and its leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of Operations and Head of School.
Minimum Requirements:
1. High School graduate or equivalent required.
2. Possession of valid Guard Card or equivalent required.
3. Experience in security enforcement with a strong working knowledge of safety practices in a school environment. Prior experience in law enforcement or military police preferred.
4. Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external).
5. Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
6. Accessible, approachable and welcoming, managing confidential situations with discretion, respect and sensitivity.
7. Highly ethical and confidential team player.
8. Able to exercise independence and sound judgment when decision making.
9. High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines and interruptions are the norm.
10. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
11. Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
