What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Assistant position at St. Mary's School?
St. Mary's School in Simsbury is seeking a long-term substitute classroom assistant to work with lower elementary (grades PreK to 3) students. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check, fingerprinting, and complete Virtus training. This is a school day/school year only position for the remainder of this school year. There is a possibility of it leading to a longer assignment.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the classroom teacher with daily activities in individual, small group, and whole class settings.
- Providing instruction to students in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Following lesson plans and ensuring educational activities are effectively carried out.
- Maintaining a positive classroom environment.
- Managing student behavior and enforcing school policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills required:
- Experience working with children in a classroom or childcare setting.
- Understanding of childhood development principles and the ability to apply them in an educational setting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
