What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faculty in Residence - Psychology position at St. Mary's University?
St. Mary's University invites applications to the Department of Psychology as Faculty-In-Residence for employment beginning August 2025 for an initial 2-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The position is envisioned as a half time appointment designed to allow a practitioner the time to practice while engaging undergraduate students in the classroom and research. Compensation will be based on teaching load and time commitment.
Candidates for the position must have a PhD or PsyD in Psychology, preferably in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or school psychology, with a strong and illustrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement. Doctoral degrees in other areas of psychology will be considered providing the candidate has substantial education and experience in one of the practitioner areas (for example an LPC, LSSP, or LPA with a subsequent doctoral degree in a non-practitioner area of psychology). Doctoral degree must be from an accredited institution and should be completed at time of employment; ABD applicants will be considered.
The department has a strong empirical focus and seeks a practitioner with similar focus and training. The Department of Psychology offers the BA in Psychology, an undergraduate certificate in Community-based Assessment and Evaluation, a graduate certificate in Dual Credit Teaching, a graduate certificate in Community-based Assessment and Evaluation, and a new MS in Program Evaluation. The department, one of the largest undergraduate majors in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, is committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship and is actively involved in mentoring and supporting student research.
The successful candidate will teach and mentor students. Teaching responsibilities will include abnormal psychology and an additional course each fall and spring semester. Electives in area of specialization (e.g., clinical practices, school psychology, health psychology, or others) are desirable and candidates who are qualified to teach Physiological/Biological Psychology are especially desirable. Additional duties include holding office hours, mentoring and advising students, and engaging students in research. The successful candidate is expected to support and contribute to the University's Marianist educational mission and our commitments as an HSI. The incorporation of experiential learning and high impact practices into course offerings is expected and training support for these best practices is available.
