Job Summary
St. Matthew Catholic School is seeking a compassionate and organized Part-Time Special Education Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for observing students, coordinating referrals for screening and evaluation with the school district, conducting AZELLA testing, and ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
Student Observations: Conduct regular observations of students to identify those who may require special education services or interventions. Document observations and collaborate with teachers to gather additional information.
Referral Coordination: Coordinate the referral process for students who may need special education services. This includes communicating with parents, teachers, and the school district to ensure timely and accurate referrals for screening and evaluation.
AZELLA Testing- Administer Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) testing to students as needed. Ensure that all testing protocols are followed and results are accurately recorded.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and IFSPs: Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans(IEPs) and IFSPs for students with special needs. Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that IEP goals are being met.
Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff to develop and implement strategies and accommodations that support the learning and development of students with special needs.
Training and Support: Provide training and support to teachers and staff on best practices for working with students with special needs. Stay current with special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student observations, referrals, evaluations, IEPs, and other relevant documentation.
Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed about their child's progress, services, and any changes to their IEP. Provide resources and support to parents as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification
- Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a school setting.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and school staff.
- Experience with AZELLA testing and IEP development is preferred.
