Summary

This opportunity is to assist the teacher in a First Steps 4K classroom. St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Preschool is a South Carolina licensed facility teaching and caring for children 18 months through age five.We participate in the Quality Counts rating system.We are now accepting resumes for Teacher Assistants who will be excited to participate in a faith-based, child development program!

The responsibilities include providing a safe, clean and nurturing environment, teaching and caring for children with a strong understanding of the developmental stages of preschool aged children.All applicants will engage and interact with individual children as well as small groups, in age appropriate center activities and play-based learning.In absence of the teacher, the assistant must be able to lead instructional activities. This position requires a a high school diploma or equivalent, AND the ECD 101 Credential plus 2 years of experience working with children in a licensed child care program.

Duties

Assist in the implementation of Creative Curriculum activities and encourage participation by children, in play based learning centers.
Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
Follow all center policies and state regulations.
Understand the policies and procedures for state managed First Steps 4k.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, ECD 101 Credential, minimum 2 years documented experience working with children ages birth to 5.

High energy.

Ability to work well with others.

An understanding of child development.

Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.

Must be able and willing to take frequent walks, engage in outdoor activity, use hands, fingers and handle objects, to talk clearly and hear voices at different levels.

Must be able to kneel, bend ,squat in the classroom and playground environment.

Vision ability will include seeing up close and distances, and to have peripheral vision and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

Associates degree or greater in Early Care and Education or a related field

Infant / child CPR and First Aid certification.

1 year or more of experience working in a licensed child care center.

Understanding of Conscious Discipline.

Understanding of Creative Curriculum.
