What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Director/Organist Position- St. Michael's Church, MD position at St. Michael's Catholic Church?
Qualifications:
Play the organ and sing at Sunday Masses and Holy Days of Obligation at St. Michael’s; plan music selections for these Masses; create/format worship aids for Mass; schedule, prepare for, and run choir rehearsals for both children and adult choirs; coordinate cantor schedule and rehearsals; develop organ skills and repertoire; play/sing and organize music for funerals/weddings.
- Devout, practicing Roman Catholic
- Ability to sight read keyboard music
- Ability to play the organ (playing manuals only with a desire to learn more would be sufficient)
- Desire to follow the liturgical music norms put forth by the Church
- Familiarity with liturgical Latin and ability to read Gregorian Chant
- Ability to lead choir practices and conduct monthly adult and children’s choirs
- Good communication skills

- Note: If some additional hours are desired, other responsibilities can be added related to liturgical preparation, such as: coordinating monthly ministry schedule; assisting with preparation and volunteer coordination for special liturgies (e.g. Triduum, special holy hours, processions, devotionals, etc.); ordering new/restock items for sacristy.
