What are the responsibilities and job description for the Third Grade Teacher position at St. Michael's School?
St. Michael’s School, in central Tucson, is seeking an elementary classroom teacher for grade 3 to begin full-time in August 2025. Candidates for teaching in our Lower School will join a talented faculty and will work with students who are bright, motivated, and caring in a small class setting.
Lower School teaching faculty develop the academic, social, and spiritual foundation of our students. Caring, committed faculty members, in partnership with parents, serve as role models, mentors and guides. St. Michael’s has an academically talented and diverse student body and seeks the same in its faculty.
Qualifications
All interested candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education (advanced study and/or Master’s degree is preferred), an Arizona teaching license (we will consider other state licenses) and two or more years of elementary classroom teaching experience.
Desired Expertise and Experience:
- Demonstrate strong relationship-building skills with students, parents, and colleagues, sound instructional and planning pedagogy, and openness to growth
- Maintain a structured, engaging, and challenging learning environment within a student-centered classroom.
- Exhibit strong collaborative skills and ability to work closely with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional planning.
- Understand and effectively employ research-based practices for literacy and mathematics instruction
- Demonstrate knowledge and use of student data and assessments to inform instructional planning consistent with curricular goals; effectively use both formative and summative assessment practices that lead to clear, timely, and accurate feedback to students and their parents
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a faculty member and work directly with the Lower School division director to initiate, implement, and oversee the day-to-day program for students in the elementary classroom
- Partner closely with grade-level teaching colleague and work closely across the program
- Provide academic guidance to students and serve as a student advocate, helping students’ families respond to specific academic, emotional, and developmental challenges
- Embrace a growth mindset for one’s professional growth as a teacher; participate in quantifiable professional development activities and collegial classroom visitation
- Demonstrate strong pedagogical knowledge for elementary learners
Reporting and Evaluation
All K-4 faculty report directly to the Lower School (K-4) Division Director and are evaluated on a timeline determined by the Division Head, in collaboration with the Head of School.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is highly competitive with area schools, commensurate with years of experience and educational background, and negotiable within established ranges.
