Job Overview:
St. Michael the Archangel is a Catholic high school committed to academic excellence and spiritual growth, and is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Softball Coach to join our athletic team. The Assistant Softball Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to support and develop our student-athletes in their physical, mental, and spiritual growth through the sport of softball. The ideal candidate will have a passion for coaching, a deep understanding of the game, and the ability to foster a positive, Christ-centered team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
? Coaching & Instruction: Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing effective practice plans and game strategies. Provide individual and group instruction to athletes, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
? Mentorship & Spiritual Guidance: Encourage student-athletes to grow in their faith and character both on and off the field. Help integrate Catholic values into coaching practices and foster a spirit of teamwork, respect, and service.
? Game Preparation & Strategy: Help analyze opponents, assist with game-day strategies, and provide feedback during games. Participate in pre-game warm-ups, in-game coaching, and post-game analysis.
? Athlete Development: Assist in the physical and mental development of players, helping them set goals and track progress. Encourage athletes to achieve personal and team goals, both in athletics and in their spiritual lives.
? Team Support & Communication: Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, and school staff. Assist with organizing team events, meetings, and fundraising efforts as needed.
? Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all practices and games comply with safety standards, school policies, and league regulations. Promote safe play and help athletes prevent and recover from injuries.
? Administrative Assistance: Assist with scheduling, travel arrangements, equipment management, and other logistical needs as requested by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
? Experience: Previous coaching experience (high school, club, or collegiate level) preferred. Playing experience at the high school or collegiate level is a plus.
? Knowledge: Strong understanding of the fundamentals of softball, including offensive and defensive strategies. Ability to teach basic and advanced techniques to athletes of varying skill levels.
? Faith: A strong commitment to the Catholic faith and an ability to integrate Catholic values into coaching and interactions with student-athletes.
? Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with athletes, parents, staff, and the school community.
? Physical Requirements: Ability to lead practices, demonstrate skills, and engage in physical activity as needed. Must be able to lift and carry equipment and provide hands-on instruction.
? Certification: CPR, First Aid, and Concussion Awareness certifications are preferred (or the ability to obtain them upon hire).
