St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally ranked private Catholic liberal arts college, is seeking both part-time and full-time Childcare Assistants for the summer. In this role, you will support childcare teachers in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Ideal candidates will have a genuine passion for working with children, demonstrate patience, and maintain a friendly and positive attitude.
Non-Exempt
Specific responsibilities:
- Support childcare teachers in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.
- Supervise and engage with children at all times, including during free play, rest time, and outdoor activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and communicate appropriately with staff while respecting family privacy.
- Use a confident, positive approach to guide behavior and address issues as needed.
- Assist with individual and small-group activities, implementing developmentally appropriate practices.
- Help with classroom setup, opening/closing duties, and general housekeeping tasks.
- Greet parents warmly, foster relationships with children and families, and assist with meals, toileting, and hygiene.
- Respond to emergencies and notify the childcare teacher when necessary.
- Participate in staff meetings and support additional tasks as directed by Lead Teachers or the Director.
Minimum qualifications:
- Complete all required paperwork as mandated by the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
- Undergo an FBI fingerprint background check.
- Effectively communicate and convey information both orally and in writing, ensuring clarity and comprehension for listeners.
- Perform physical tasks involving full-body movement, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping—essential for the daily care of children.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the job description.
