Description of the Position : (Purpose of the Position) :
The Norwegian department is seeking two research assistants to assist a faculty member with a book manuscript on the Norwegian involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.
The research will focus on expanding several chapters specifically connected to the former Danish West Indies. Topics will cover Intra-American slave trade (with an emphasis on Puerto Rico and Cuba), maroonage, and emancipation. Students in RACE and history with strong writing, research, and organizing skills are especially encouraged to apply. This position does not require Norwegian language knowledge, but knowledge of written French, Spanish, or Danish would be helpful.
Work hours are flexible but must be available to meet in person weekly. The position is for roughly 60 hours per student during the fall semester. If spread out evenly through the semester that is 4 hours a week. There will be a similar project in the spring should continuing with this project be a good fit.
