Description of the Position : (Purpose of the Position) : To assist Japanese Program faculty in their teaching. Very rarely, students may be asked to assist in their research and in college-related service.
Transferable Skills : Communication (both in English and Japanese; both spoken and written); attention to detail; organization; punctuality; responsibility; confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Work with the assigned faculty member in Japanese. Those who are assigned as tutorial leaders will consult with the faculty member on the content of the tutorials and conduct weekly individual or small group tutorial sessions (Japanese 111 to Japanese 302). Those who are assigned as graders / course assistants will review homework, correct quizzes, input the grades onto Moodle, and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications : (Education / Experience / Skills)
Hiring preference will be given to Japanese language students, Japanese majors, or to native speakers of Japanese. Minimum qualification : Preference will be given to students who have completed each course in the Japanese sequence with a grade of A- or above, or native language ability. Successful applicants must have completed the level for which they will serve as a tutor / grader. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision are required. Strong interpersonal skills and strong Japanese language skills. Enthusiasm for promoting and teaching Japanese.
