Position is Part Time Non-Exempt 15 Hours per week
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under the direct supervision of The Director of Youth Ministry assists with planning, coordinating, implementing, developing and evaluating all facets of the Jr. high (EDGE) and high school (Life Teen) youth ministry programs and assists with the 4th-5th grade Rock45 program; collaborates with the Youth Ministry staff and the Director of Youth Ministry to achieve unity of vision and implementation of youth ministry; assists in recruitment, orientation, basic training, in-service and motivation of youth ministers; assists in the coordination of leadership development of youth; assists in the organization and maintenance of Youth Ministry Office; assists in promotion of youth within the parish and wider community; assists in the coordination of social justice activities, maintains professional competency; participates as a member of the parish staff; perform other position related tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by the Pastor.
DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- Outreach to youth at Sunday Youth Liturgy.
- Outreach to youth on assigned Saturday evening/Sunday morning liturgies.
- Establish a presence for youth at assigned Sunday liturgies.
- Welcome/reach out to youth arriving at sessions.
- Lead/write occasional talks and/or LifeTeen, EDGE, and Rock45 sessions.
- Present talks/presentations during LifeTeen, EDGE, and Rock45 sessions.
- Assist in the coordination of social justice activities.
- Attend designated youth games, plays, concerts, presentations, on school campuses, etc.
- Keep contact with youth not attending as well as their parents.
- Seek to develop meaningful spiritual relationships with youth and young families .
- Help Rock45 students transition into EDGE.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and ongoing development of core teams.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of core team
- training sessions.
- Assist in the development, planning and implementation of the LifeTeen, EDGE, and Rock45 retreats.
- Attend and actively participate in retreat experiences.
- Attend youth ministry leadership meetings for the purpose of planning/implementation of LifeTeen, EDGE, and Rock 45.
- Assist with budgeting.
- Attend youth ministry training conferences.
- Attend diocesan meetings/functions when necessary.
- Recruit adults and young adults for ministering as a core member.
- Participates as a member of parish staff.
- Participates in staff meetings, staff activities, days of prayer and staff development.
Requirements
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Assists with the continual development and smooth operation of the youth ministry programs in a mature, efficient and professional manner; maintaining confidentiality and continuous professional development through study, self-examination and use of supervision.
- Must have good knowledge of adolescent development and youth ministry methods; must be willing to stay current in trends of youth ministry and catechesis of youth; computer literacy preferred.
- Must be able to work under pressure; must be able to work within collaborative ministry with members of parish staff of a growing parish.
- Must be in good health and energetic to participate in youth activities; sits at desk, drives.
- Complete and maintain Diocesan Safe Environment Training as required by Diocese
- Must be able to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and own personal transportation. Employee is subject to Diocesan and parish personnel policies prescribed for all personnel.
- Be trained as a Safe Environment Trainer.
