Essential Job Functions
Under the direct supervision of classroom teachers and administration, the Preschool Aide will assist the teacher in meeting instructional goals and objectives that have been developed for each child. He or she will also provide student supervision that will free certified professional employees from non-professional duties so as to enable them to make contributions to other aspects of the educational program.
Position Purpose
- Serves as a positive role model of the Catholic faith is his / her words, deeds, demeanor, dress, and actions both within and outside of the classroom.
- Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and to implement assigned programs.
- Remain with students in specials (only at the request of those teachers), such as Art, PE, Music, Technology.
- Assists in classroom preparations and in developing strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assists with classroom behavior management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task. This may include removing a student from the classroom to ensure productive learning for the other students.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor duty, and other related non-instructional tasks.
- Assist or take students to the bathroom, and monitor students during bathroom breaks.
- Accompanies students on field trips for supervisory purposes.
- Constructs, copies, distributes and uses educational materials as directed by the teacher.
- Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures
- Understands and adheres to all tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Maintains a lifestyle that is in full accord with Church teachings, both within and outside of the school environment.
- Complete additional tasks that are asked by the Teacher or Principal.
Additional Duties:
- Assists guidance, pupil services staff, or building administration, as needed.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal(s).
Equipment:
- Use standard office equipment, such as Interactive board/SMART Boards, personal computers, telephones, copiers, telephones..
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and to perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Google Docs, etc.).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to consistently report to work on days and at times established by the school Principal.
- Ability to communicate with all constituents including (but not limited to); school administration, the pastor, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed.
- Works in standard office and school building environments but also has the ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 per hour
