What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of After School Program position at St. Paul After School Club?
This position is a part-time After School Assistant Director position. The assistant director supports the Director of the St. Paul Lutheran Church After School Club. The purpose of the program is to provide a safe place, while also helping children in our church and community to thrive physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Our program provides an engaging, and nurturing environment for children of families requiring quality child care for after school. We follow the Minden Public School calendar with regards to holiday and weather closings. Usual hours are Monday-Thursday 3~6 pm and Friday 2~6 pm.
The assistant director is responsible for assisting the director of our after school program for children Kindergarten through 6th grade as part of the ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden, and in accordance to the requirements established by Nebraska Health and Human Services Title 391, Chapter 4. Reports to:
Director and St. Paul Lutheran Church Board of Education.
Essential Duties:
Ensuring the safety of youth through proper monitoring . Verify children’s attendance of the program by overseeing our Procare attendance database and verify children are logging in at time of entrance and out when released to a parent or authorized adult. Provides support and guidance necessary to each child to the best of their ability.
Accepts the responsibility for light maintenance and housekeeping of the facilities common use area, restrooms, and kitchen.
Use redirection with any undesirable behaviors, and if conflict arises contact the Director to take over the situation.
Assists in coordinating snack times and bathroom activities.
Assists in other activities determined appropriate by the Director.
Observes and understands all rules and regulations of St. Paul After School Club and the licensing standards of the State of Nebraska DHHS standards pertaining to health, safety, and care of children. Maintain overall professional personal appearance adhering to the guidelines of the After School Club. Performs related duties as required.
Dependent children aged k-6th grade will be allowed to attend the After School Club free of charge whenever the assistant is on duty.
Qualifications:
An assistant director must be at least 18 years of age and of good moral character, and must meet one of the following requirements:
1. Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development;
2. Hold an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development;
3. Have a Child Development Associate Credential; or
4. Have a high school diploma or GED; and (1) 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for school-age children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor; or (2) Submit a written plan for Department approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development, in a period not to exceed six months. The licensee must maintain a copy of the written plan and Department approval for Department review.
