Overview
We are seeking a part-time Director of Music to coordinate the total music program, including leading the church choir in providing appropriate choral, organ, and piano music during worship services and special church events.
Responsibilities
1. Plan and work with the Pastor regarding the theme for the 10 am Sunday worship service, special programs, and selection of hymns and choral music.
2. Act as the resource person and member of the Worship and Music Committee.
3. Direct the Worship choir in rehearsal and presentation of selected music (choir currently meets at 4 pm on Thursdays; breaks during June-September).
4. Train the Worship choir in choral techniques, appreciation of sacred music, leadership, and participation in worship. The director should be considerate of the choir’s time and capabilities. Programs should be planned well in advance.
5. Recruit and organize members for choirs such as adults, youth, children, bells, etc.
6. Provide appropriate music for special services and events (e.g., Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Cantatas, and Vacation Bible School).
7. Plan, prepare, and play organ and piano music appropriate to each worship service (prelude, offertory, postlude, and hymns).
8. Organize and maintain the music library.
9. Oversee the maintenance of the church’s musical equipment, such as pianos and organs.
10. Obtain substitute musicians when needed.
11. To play music for weddings and funerals (separate honorarium provided).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12,000.00 - $14,000.00 per year
