What you will do:
The primary function of the Billing Manager is to perform all duties associated with the management of the Billing department. Reporting to the Practice Administrator, the Manager of Billing is responsible for hiring and supervising staff, oversees daily billing operations, employee relations management, and human resource management. The Billing Manager will perform all job functions in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the St. Peter’s Health Partner’s Core Values. Additional duties may include billing follow-up, validation, reconciliation, user education, report preparation, data analysis, system modification, and denial management. This position provides direct support to the Practice Administrator, Director, and Revenue Cycle.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for human resource management services for the billing department including but not limited to:
- Recruitment, orientation, and support.
- review and approve time sheets for payroll processing.
- address performance and/or behavior issues appropriately
- annual performance evaluations
- arrange schedules and coverage to ensure smooth operation and patient care, communicate billing department news, changes, and other information as needed.
- involve the human resources department appropriately in employee relations issues.
- Coach, counsel, support employees, and lead by example.
- Ensures that all staff members are performing functions related to billing/collecting, account maintenance, payment posting, adjustment posting, and follow-up according to the required timeframes for optimum performance and results. This position further must ensure that all supporting departments are provided adequate support to the billing/collection function for effective receivable management and consistent workflow.
- Coordinates any changes either payor/regulatory or contract driven with members of hospital departments as necessary, including recommended process or system changes.
- Monitors and ensures billing analysts, coders, and support staff are aware of front-end operations, referrals, authorizations, and clinical workflows. The Billing Manager will monitor any backlog in particular areas, and payer/payment issues.
- Performs analyses to determine any issues, including the review of processes, and developing recommendations for change to improve the current processes.
- Prepares and produces denial or write off dashboards for consistent trends.
- Co-leads daily tier meetings with operational managers, with a focus on system office deliverables and metrics.
- Monitors that all billable services are processed within the Electronic Medical Records system in a timely manner and shares that information with the appropriate managers and directors.
- Ensures all billed services are submitted to insurances as "Clean Claims" and provides education when needed.
- Identifies any problematic charges for further review to correct coding/billing issues.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with other departments within the organization.
- Reports any outstanding claims to contact to ensure all claims are billed timely.
- Provides necessary feedback from operational departments to CBO as appropriate.
- Acts as a resource, on behalf of the CBO, to ensure patient related questions are being addressed appropriately.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations as appropriate.
- Works cooperatively with all team members to ensure quality service at all times.
- Communicates respectfully and effectively with providers, clinical staff, colleagues, managers, and others.
- Adhere to St Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates employment guidelines at all times.
- Perform mandatory in-service training. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Adhere to the St Peter’s Health Partner’s Medical Associates Code of Conduct in performance of all job duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s Degree preferred.
- 3 years Supervisory experience preferred
- 3 years working in a billing or charge entry position required
- 5 years' experience in a physician practice or billing office
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organization & effective time management
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Knowledge of CPC
- Knowledge of CPT, CPTII, and ICD10
- Knowledge of insurance carriers
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, related computer programs, and general office equipment.
Pay Range: $22.00 - $34.10
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
