St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 170 students in the center of historic Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are searching for a dynamic, engaging Creativity Teacher for Preschool through First Grade who is responsible for implementing an innovative creativity curriculum, incorporating art, music, children’s literature, theater, dance and performing arts experiences. The class is designed to help bring out the creativity that lives within us all and is experiential in nature. Supervising students in a positive, interactive climate that develops the creative talents of each student is the goal.
This person collaborates with the School’s other Music and Art Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources and develop unique and distinctive creative opportunities for the St. Peter’s students. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively with current teachers to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
While the primary responsibilities for this role will be teaching Preschool through First Grade Creativity classes, there will be opportunities to be involved with other creative pursuits throughout the school. Instructing theater classes across all grade levels and working with our Upper Grades in theater and musical performances, helping students in our Recording Studio, and collaborating with other faculty to bring creativity into other classrooms are all possibilities depending upon the needs of the students.
Additionally, the Creativity Teacher should be knowledgeable of current instructional practices, pedagogy and curriculum standards, and innovative approaches to art and music instruction; including project based learning. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important.

A degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education or Arts Education is required. While a Master’s degree is not required, advanced coursework or training is preferred, as well as previous teaching experience in public or independent schools. - Prepares and implements Creativity classes, and provides leadership across the school in that area
- Utilizes an inclusive repertoire of all types of creative literature, including music, art, movement and other areas which are appropriate for the age and developmental level of each class
- Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their creativity and encourages students to show pride in their work and their school
- Fosters a joy and enthusiasm for creativity throughout the school
- Works with the Upper School Chorus and other musical groups as needed
- Knowledgeable in project based learning and theme based interdisciplinary instruction
- Plans, rehearses and directs students in creative performances for the school
- Evaluates each student’s creative growth and reports to parents about progress through the year
- Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible and constructive manner
- Implements a variety of instructional and assessment methods to meet the students where they are academically and creatively
- Integrates use of educational technology, design-thinking, experiential education, and project-based learning that is age appropriate
- Actively supports the school’s mission, philosophy, and school policies
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School
