Our Mission:
St. Pius X School serves God in Communion with the Roman Catholic Church by fostering moral, social, and intellectual growth within a college preparatory setting to teach young people to be ethical leaders in service of others.
Role:
The Assistant Director of Athletics has the responsibility of assisting the Directors of Athletics in carrying out the duties required for the athletic program at St. Pius X School.
Responsibilities:
Administrative:
- Attends all department meetings.
- Assists the Directors of Athletics in carrying out all policies and procedures for the Athletic Department.
- Suggests changes in policies.
- Meets with the Directors of Athletics weekly to review and discuss matters and issues of importance.
- Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Athletics if he/she is unavailable.
New Mexico Activities Association & District 5AAAA:
- Attends meetings for Athletic Directors of the NMAA (Middle School and High School) and District-5AAAA and NMISL.
- Enforces NMAA rules and codes of conduct.
- Make sure that coaches know NMAA, District-5AAAA and NMISL rules and advise them of changes.
Equipment:
- Assists coaches in issuing and collecting all equipment.
Facilities:
- Make sure, together with each coach, that the gyms, weight room, and locker rooms are secure and supervised whenever in use.
- Is confident, together with each coach, that facilities are safe and playable.
- Gets repaired any facility that is unusable.
- Makes certain, along with the head coach, events manager, and maintenance personnel, that facilities are set up for home contests.
- Is assured that all coaches properly supervise facilities.
- Ensures that lockers are kept in proper condition.
Financial:
- Assists in making the department budget that will be submitted.
Hiring and Rehiring:
- Assists the Directors of Athletics in evaluating the performance of each member of athletic department staff under her/his supervision in order to recommend improvement, rehiring or dismissal.
- Helps the Directors of Athletics in evaluating the performance of each coach in order to recommend areas of improvement, rehiring or dismissal.
- Make recommendations to the Directors of Athletics regarding the hiring of new coaches.
Medical:
- Makes certain, along with the football coach and Athletic Trainers, that a doctor is present for every varsity football game.
- Ensures, along with the Athletic Trainers, that there is an adequate supply of first aid equipment.
- Make sure, along with the Athletic Trainers, that there is an adequate supply of taping equipment for in-season and off-season programs.
- Assists in facilitating, along with the Athletic Trainers, the learning of first aid, taping etc. by coaches, managers and team captains.
- Make certain, along with the Athletic Trainers that coaches fill out accident/injury forms promptly and that these are submitted to the business office.
Public Relations:
- Goes to Booster Club meetings whenever possible and actively participates in their fundraising activities.
- Encourages coaches, parents, and teams to actively participate in the Booster Club and all its activities and meetings, including fundraising.
- Makes coaches, parents and teams aware of participation requirements of the Booster Club.
- Returns phone calls and responds to emails promptly.
- Attends athletic banquets whenever possible.
- Represents St. Pius X in a positive manner at all times by modeling appropriate Christian behavior.
- Communicates with all staff, parents, athletes and fans in an effective, professional, friendly manner and makes sure that all the Athletic Department staff is doing the same.
Supervision:
- Is confident that there is adequate supervision for home and away contests.
- Ensures that there is an athletic department supervisor or representative present at all home games for purposes of game management.
- Is present at school athletic events whenever possible.
Experience and Education
- BA in related field Required
- Strong background in education administration
- 2 or more years of experience in athletics required
- Proven ability to work effectively with high school and middle school students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student development and success
