Job description/Responsibilities: Full-Time (40hrs)

APPROXIMATE PAY RANGE:
$33.68 - $41.43
Under moderate supervision obtains, processes, and distributes blood samples as needed according to written accepted procedures. Accepts and processes all other specimens received by the Laboratory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Performs venipunctures and capillary blood collections for clinical laboratory testing according to accepted written protocol.
Processes specimens for transport to reference laboratories as needed.
Access specimens in the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and distribute specimens to appropriate clinical specialty areas within the Laboratory.
Communicate items requiring priority processing to the scientists.
Complies with all regulations pertaining to employee and patient safety, patient privacy and confidentiality, and Medicare fraud and abuse.
Knows and follows all isolation procedures pertaining to patients.
Promotes good public relations through productive and professional interaction with patients and their families, physicians, and other hospital staff.
Demonstrates competence in obtaining blood specimens by venipunctures or capillary puncture from neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
OTHER DUTIES
Performs primary inoculations of bacteriological, fungal, and acid-fast cultures.
Performs all HIS and LIS functions associated with patient and specimen processing.
Monitors HIS/LIS interface in the absence of office staff.
Assists with maintaining supplies inventory for phlebotomy/specimen processing area.
Distributes hard copies of lab results to floors during regularly scheduled rounds.
Operates some automated and semi-automated equipment.
Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
Assist with answering the phones and providing backup support for office staff when necessary.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Section Leader, Supervisor, and Manager.
Required Qualification: License/Certification: California State Phlebotomy Certification (CPT)
Education: High school diploma is preferred.
Some college-level biology courses are recommended.
Basic Medical Terminology is essential.
Experience: At least one year of hospital phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Skills: Type 35 wpm
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn.
The employee must demonstrate basic computer skills
