What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Youth and Family Ministries position at St. Stephen Lutheran Church?
Summary: St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church is seeking a director of youth and family ministries to develop a safe and welcoming culture embracing people of all ages, particularly youth. This person will be working with a ministry team to provide a particular emphasis on children and youth, ages 3-18, supporting the wider mission of the church.
Job Characteristics: Part-time, in-person, 12 hrs/week, Sunday mornings (3hrs) and Wednesday evenings (2hrs), other times flexible. Some travel may be required.
Starting compensation: $22/hour, 2 weeks paid vacation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with pastor and professional staff to develop and maintain a youth group
- Coordinate and teach Sunday School (K-6th Grade) and Confirmation (middle school)
- Coordinate family fellowship time
- Resource families of newly-baptized children
- Plan and facilitate for vacation bible school
- Recruit volunteers and participants

- Christian faith, commitment to church’s mission
- Excellent communications skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Compliance with Employee Handbook, Constitutions and Bylaws of the ELCA and of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, including our commitment to diversity and equity
Education and experience:
Some experience working with children in a professional setting is required.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to the pastor, relates to church council’s executive team as personnel committee.
