JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Work Shift: Mon - Fri 7:30am - 4pm
Summary of the Job:
Responsible for working in coordination with the Director of Infection in the development, direction, implementation, management, and operation of infection prevention in STHS and the satellite facilities. Infection Preventionist rounds and works with the entire healthcare to team to identify, investigate, monitor, perform surveillance, prevent, and report healthcare infections for the entire St. Tammany Health System including all satellite facilities. The Infection Preventionist works with the OPH to evaluate outbreaks and initiates surveillance, monitoring, and action plans to mitigate the outbreak. IP rounds and works with all departments and facilities to ensure OPH infection prevention standards are incorporated into the departments structure and operation and maintained. IP facilitates and performs annual OPH surveys for licensure. Infection Prevention works in conjunction with Plant Operations and Construction to ensure maintenance and construction infection prevention risks are mitigated and the infection prevention risks assessments are followed throughout the project. Infection Preventionist collaborates with teams and individuals to create, educate, and sustain infection prevention strategies, as well as provide feedback to colleagues, physicians, leadership, and the Board. Infection Prevention ensures the 24/7 facility-wide operations meet the CMS, CDC, OPH, and APCI standards for infection prevention.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, medical technology, public health, or other healthcare science.
- Current Louisiana license as RN, Med Tech, Social Work, or Respiratory Therapy
- Have primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or another related field
- Two (2) years of hospital-based healthcare experience required
- Two (2) years of experience working with the healthcare team: patients, nursing, physicians, and infection prevention
- Must possess at a minimum a bachelor’s degree
- Experience in Infection Prevention and Employee Health, preferred, but not required
- CIC certified or certify within three (3) years of employment
- Collaboration, leadership, and conflict resolution
- Communication skills oral and written; employee must have good people skills to collaborate with staff at all levels, allied health personnel and physicians.
- Ability to implement evidence-based guidelines
- Knowledge in and ability to conduct data collection and analysis, reporting writing and data presentation
- Must present a positive, professional impression when dealing with all customers
- A good command of the spoken and written English language is required.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 10 pounds is required.
