Summary: This position is under the direction of the Accounting Manager. The Accounting Technician I is primarily responsible for the processing and recordation of transactions in the cash disbursements and cash receipts areas.

- Review, balance, and process deposits from multiple departments to customers’ accounts; enter refunds; research variances
- Prepare daily deposit batches for pickup by armed courier service; assist in scheduling/reporting on armored courier service and make deposits at bank if needed
- Process vendor invoices for payment, process and track utility billings, process jury payments, reconcile vendor invoices/statements, verify payment authorization, reconcile outstanding accounts; contact departments to review invoices received for purchase orders without receiving records
- Setup and update vendors in the system
- Track, monitor, reconcile, and verify all transactions within the scope of the above
- Interact with other departments and employees, the general public, customers, and vendors
- Regular, consistent attendance is required
- Any other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager, Controller, Assistant Director of Finance and/or the Director of Finance.
Competencies: Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software, copy machine, fax machine, calculator and scanner. Employee must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Employee must be able to communicate effectively and has excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Employee should have a familiarity with financial software packages. Employee should have knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and governmental organizations. This position also requires extensive communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a typical office environment with little or no exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Primary functions are limited to an office environment. Occasional duties may require travel or working in non-office environment.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
Required Education/Qualifications: Employee should have a High School diploma or equivalent GED and three (3) years’ experience in accounts payable, invoice processing, or in an accounting or finance environment. A college degree in a related field may be substituted for years of experience.
