Job Summary :
The WCS Abstraction Specialist abstracts data from patients’ medical records to support the system’s quality reporting and other performance improvement needs. The abstraction specialist enters abstracted data into quality improvement databases as required by state and federal initiatives, as well as any other databases deemed necessary by the organization. The employee may be required to produce spreadsheets used by performance improvement teams and medical staff committees. The Abstraction Specialist might be asked to participate on performance improvement teams and possibly create and give presentations to groups.
The specialist supports the bedside nurse and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice by presenting data for educational and improvement processes.
Minimum Qualifications :
Current LA state RN license required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing and 3 years of clinical experience required in Maternity and / or Pediatric Services.
Physical Demands :
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.

Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing / pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling / feeling
