JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

JOB SUMMARY :
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Respiratory Department with regard to patient care management, resource management, fiscal management, and knowledge and adherence to federal and state regulations. The coordinator will oversee staff and give direction on quality and consistent patient care and will participate in direct patient care as needed. Responsibilities also include supervision and operational direction of the respiratory blood gas laboratory ensuring that CLIA and Joint Commission standards are followed. Facilitates development of departmental goals and objectives that are in support of departmental and institutional philosophy and mission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Successful completion of a CoARC approved school of Respiratory Therapy / Cardiopulmonary Science. Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy, cardiovascular technology, a laboratory science (chemical, biological, clinical or medical), or medical technology and at least two (2) years of laboratory training or experience; OR have an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science and at least four (4) years of laboratory training or experience. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in respiratory care, with a preferred minimum of three (3) years in a progressively responsible position in management. Basic computer skills required. NICU and PICU experience along with NRP and PALS certifications are highly preferred.
Current Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist. Current license by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist . Current BLS and ALS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to : Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Frequently (34%-66%) - stooping, crouching, reaching, handling / feeling
Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing / pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing
