JOB SUMMARY :
Sergeant is a supervisory ARMED security officer who supervises four or more subordinate ARMED security officers, reports to and assists Lieutenants, Captains, and the Director with watch related duties and hospital security related responsibilities. Supervisory duties include, but not limited to, scheduling and assigning security officers to posts, overseeing patrols, providing evaluations of subordinates, and reviewing reports. Sergeants will patrol the interior and exterior grounds of the hospital to protect property and to assist in providing a safe environment for all patients, visitors, physicians and employees. Responds to all emergency situations and alerts local authorities when required. Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic on hospital property. Monitors visitors and issue passes after hours. Assists medical staff with restraining and / or detaining specific types of hospital patients. Enforces and follows all Security and St. Tammany Health Systems’ (STHS) policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions. 5 years of armed security related experience is required. 2 years of security related supervisory experience is preferred. Prior certification or registration with the Louisiana State Board of Private Security examiners is recommended. Must be certified by a State certified, recognized, and STHS approved firearms, handcuffing, and / or law enforcement training entity. You must not have any felony convictions. You must own and maintain ownership of a privately owned cellular phone for emergencies and on-call events. Must satisfactory complete firearm training, written tests, and qualify on the firing range. Firearms recertification must be performed annually. Must be eligible and willing to work 12 hour shifts, day and / or night to include weekends. You must follow the Use of Force policy and all STHS procedures. Must agree to and sign off on the STHS firearm affidavit.
Must have a State Firearms Certification, valid and current state issued driver’s license. Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his / her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence. Must successfully pass a criminal and driving record background checks prior to hiring and annually thereafter; Driving records shall not contain any of the following : a suspended or revoked driver’s license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 24 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and / or reckless driving within the past 12 months.
Preferred Qualifications : Prior experience as a Police Officer’s Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified law enforcement officer, federal law enforcement officer, military enforcement officer, or armed hospital security officer preferred. Training and experience with conflict resolution and ability to de-escalate hostile situations desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 100 pounds is required.
