In coordination with the Pastor, the Children Faith Formation/Youth Minister is responsible for the direction of the PreK through youth faith formation. This position also oversees parish ministries of Alpha and Small Groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinates, supervises, and acts as a resource person PreK through youth faith formation.
- Recruits catechists and youth leaders, facilitating their Diocesan certification and providing necessary in-service training for them.
- In conjunction with the pastor, staff, and/or others, develop and implement a coherent and unified curriculum and catechetical plan for the parish.
- Designs curriculum and selects texts and other materials from those approved by the Diocesan Secretariat for Evangelization and Family Life. Publicizes and offers education programs and support systems for volunteer leaders, connecting them with diocesan certification programs, diocesan in-service opportunities, state and national programs for professional development and faith formation.
- Maintains necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and times.
- Determines effective means for publicizing and promoting programs and experiences.
- Submits periodic reports to the pastor detailing programs in youth ministry.
- Facilitates development of leadership skills in youth and adults.
- Assists in the preparation of liturgical celebrations for youth (reconciliation, confirmation, World Youth Day Sunday, liturgies for retreats and special youth events).
- Provides opportunities for weekend retreats and evenings/days of reflection by developing a retreat team and providing for its development and enrichment.
- Develops the kind of relationships with parents that are conducive to open communication between parents and student.
- Administers and assists in the preparation of a budget.
- Presents an annual evaluation of the specific program to the Pastor
- Ensures that all Diocesan policies that affect parish religious education pertinent to his/her program are implemented and adhered to.
Administrative/Miscellaneous
- Ensure ministries adhere to applicable Diocesan risk management, communications, and Safe Environment policies.
- Set up catechetical registration date and prepare materials for the year.
- Facilitate and/or participate in staff and committee meetings as well as meetings and events convened by the diocese as related to catechetical ministry or job responsibilities.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in theology, Catechetics, or Pastoral Ministry or related field required, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and certification. Three years of experience in parish ministry, including lay ministry or ministry leadership responsibilities. Demonstrated experience working in an office environment with additional experience in customer service preferred. Completion of Lay Minister certification or degree program is an asset.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Effective communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
· Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of the Second Vatican Council, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other relevant ecclesial documents and publications.
· Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
· Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must pass diocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
