What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabulous First Grade Teacher position at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School?
Position Overview: St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School strives to be a place where teachers love to come every day to teach and students love to come every day to learn. Our school is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, experienced first-grade teacher to join our faith-filled, joy-filled learning community. The ideal candidate will create a joyful, engaging classroom environment where young learners develop a love for learning while growing in faith. This position requires a passion for early elementary education, a nurturing approach, and the ability to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Full-time, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday; 190 days per year. The position begins August 2025, with some required training in July 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming, joyful, and faith-centered classroom environment where students feel safe, loved, and excited to learn.
- Develop and implement high quality engaging, age-appropriate lessons that integrate Catholic values, foster creativity, and support early literacy and numeracy development.
- Cultivate strong, positive relationships with students, encouraging their social, emotional, spiritual, and academic growth.
- Establish open and effective communication with parents, keeping them informed and involved in their child's educational journey.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and school staff to contribute to a supportive and unified school community.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Ability to effectively teach the standards and objectives of the Diocese of Dallas first-grade curriculum.
- Model Catholic values, encouraging students to practice kindness, respect, and responsibility in their daily interactions.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide events.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to parents and administration.
- Complete all professional responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Actively supervise students and use positive behavior management strategies.
- Have excellent attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
- State teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
- Experience teaching in a self-contained first-grade setting strongly preferred
- A commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to collaborate and work as part of a team
- Creativity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to bring joy into the classroom through play and interactive learning experiences
- A practicing Catholic with a willingness to teach the faith, and to obtain religion certification if not already certified
