General Summary of the Position
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is seeking a full-time 1st grade instructional aide for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate has experience working with children, thinks being around them is a joyful endeavor, and enjoys being a positive member of a faith-filled team committed to serving others. The primary responsibility of the instructional aide is to enhance student learning. Aides assist students in the learning process by checking for understanding, partnering with students who learn at a slower pace or who need additional assistance, or doing anything else, at the teacher’s discretion, that assists with or improves learning. Candidates must work and play well with others and must be willing to have Safe Environment clearance. The hours are 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, for 190 days during the school year. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school by acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
- Monitors and assists individual students in small instructional groups to support learning activities
- Supervises students at lunch, recess, and in routine movement
- Performs clerical tasks, prepares instructional materials and bulletin boards as indicated by the classroom teacher
- Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits, including excellent punctual attendance
- Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
- Collaborates positively with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
- Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs
- Ability to work well with students, parents, and colleagues in an instructional setting
- Ability to follow directions and handle multiple tasks
- Possesses proficient technology skills
- Other duties as assigned
- Abides by all policies as outlined in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook of Policies and Procedures for Elementary and Secondary Schools

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Strong preference given to candidates with relevant teaching or instructional aide experience
Special Requirements:
- Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
- Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions
Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:
The job requires a great deal of standing and walking, and the ability to quickly bring children to safety in the event of an emergency.
