We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Nurse to oversee and manage all vaccines and clinically administered medications at our healthcare organization. This role will involve regular travel to St. Thomas CHC sites located in Gentilly, Uptown and the Westbank to ensure consistent quality services, adherence to standards, and seamless management of immunizations and medications. As a crucial part of our clinical operations, the Nurse will also serve as the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Coordinator, responsible for maintaining vaccination programs and ensuring proper inventory management. The role includes a focus on monitoring vaccine and medication usage, conducting audits on inventory management and documentation as well as population health agendas.

Key Responsibilities:
Vaccine and Medication Management
- Oversee and educate appropriate staff on correct medication and vaccine injection protocol (proper injection process and injection site, correct needle gauge and length)
- Review, approve, and process monthly vaccine and medication orders for each clinic site.
- Oversee the monitoring of medication and vaccine inventory and expiration dates, informing providers and staff when products are nearing expiration and ensuring proper usage.
- Ensure accurate documentation of vaccine and medication administration in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Ensure all vaccines and medications are administered in compliance with current clinical protocols and safety standards.
Vaccines for Children (VFC) Coordinator Responsibilities- Act as the VFC Coordinator for all St. Thomas CHC sites, ensuring compliance with VFC program guidelines as well as representing each site for VFC annual audits.
- Manage vaccine ordering and supervise storage and distribution of vaccines for the VFC program.
- Ensure accurate records and inventories related to VFC vaccines and monitor stock levels to prevent shortages.
- Ensure all VFC guidelines are followed and monitor for proper vaccine handling and storage. Troubleshoot vaccine discrepancies with clinic staff and coordinate corrective action.
Collaboration & Communication- Serve as the primary contact for vaccine and medication-related queries across all sites.
- Communicate expiration dates, inventory status, and vaccine availability with providers and staff. Maintain clear and effective communication with the clinical leadership team, ensuring all relevant information is shared promptly.
Inventory Management- Monitor and manage systems for vaccine and medication inventory, tracking stock levels, expirations, and ordering needs.
- Perform routine inventory audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate the procurement and restocking of vaccines across all sites, working with vendors and suppliers. Coordinate procurement of medications across all sites with the clinical operations team.
Clinical Audits & Reporting- Conduct bi-annual audits of clinically administered medications to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Travel to various clinic sites to monitor quality control and support teams in vaccine and medication management.
- Report findings from audits and inventory reviews at relevant clinical meetings and provide recommendations for improvements. Collaborate with providers, clinical teams, and staff to implement any necessary corrective actions following audits.
Population Health & Quality Standards- Contribute to the development and implementation of population health strategies related to preventive and chronic care management.
- Ensure quality services and standards for all vaccine and medication administration programs across sites.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (RN or LPN) with current state licensure required.
- Previous experience in vaccine management, medication administration, and clinical coordination.
- Strong knowledge of population health principles and vaccine programs, particularly the VFC program.
- Excellent organizational skills with experience in managing inventories and maintaining detailed records.
- Proficient in using EMR systems (EPIC) for documentation and tracking.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse clinical teams.
- Ability to travel to various clinic sites as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to and from multiple sites within the New Orleans metropolitan area.
- Ability to lift and move medical supplies and vaccines as necessary.
