SUMMARY
Responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing activities for children and youth residing at Sarahs Hope, Mount Street. Links children to necessary community and/or school-based services. Assures that necessary client (child) supervision is provided, and attends to client (children) crises necessary and appropriate.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Develop a weekly plan and routine for children and youth that includes developmentally appropriate activities including regular snack time, homework/tutoring assistance, and enrichment activities.
- Prepare a plan for the implementation of each activity for children and youth, and directly facilitate activities as necessary.
- Provide direction, supervision, and support to all volunteers and community partners assisting with youth activities.
- Supervise children and youth during program hours to ensure safety of young people at all times and ensure adherence to the rules and principles of Sarahs Hope.
- Ensure the enrollment of all school-age children into school, arrange for transportation to school as necessary, and act as liaison to the public-school system.
- Provide linkages to children and youth in the areas of education, health, and mental health, and assist parents in identifying appropriate day care resources for pre-school children.
- Ensure the enrollment of all age-appropriate children into summer camp.
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Advises/informs Case Manager regarding trends, needs and problems associated with youth, and works with the Case Manager and the parent to identify appropriate intervention
- Keeps appropriate documentation of services/interventions, collects data as needed and submits to director.
- Acts as back-up coverage to the shift monitor as necessary.
- Creates an atmosphere of care and respect for the clients
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Assists the Director in representing the mission and interest of Sarahs Hope in accordance with St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to various groups, organizations, and service providers.
- Assists with and attends special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
- Upholds the vision, mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
- Attends all staff meetings and other meetings as directed.
- Supports a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and works with them effectively.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School education or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with youth, particularly at-risk populations.
- Ability to relate in a courteous, comfortable, non-judgmental manner with persons from all ethnic, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds.
- Understanding and respect for confidentiality.
- Desire and ability to work as a team member.
