St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California's largest homeless shelter, Navigation Centers for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for both general and specific cleaning duties throughout the Navigation Center and the Laundry Worker ensures the cleanliness of the bed sheets, blankets, towels, and other laundry under the supervision of the Program Director. The Laundry Worker handles inventory control and reports all needed supplies to the Lead Launderer. This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position. The schedule is Swing Shift 4 : 00pm to 12 : 30am. Days off are Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Clean the interior areas, restrooms and yards of the Navigation Center.Perform daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.Clean the outside perimeter of the Navigation Center daily, including sweeping, watering plants and cleaning the garbage bin area, and surrounding neighborhood as needed.Ensure guest outdoor area is kept clean.Participate in regular staff meetings and training.Participate in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, i.e. gloves, footwear, eye and face protection and protective clothingPerform other appropriate duties as assigned.Laundry Worker
Collects dirty blankets, towels, and sheets from bed areas.Washes, dries and folds laundry as needed.Distributes clean blankets, towels, and sheets to bed areas and / or front desk.Follow all applicable OSHA safety requirements.Maintain laundry washing equipment, and surrounding area.Maintain inventory of laundry washing supplies.Clean assigned areas such as the laundry bathrooms.Attend all staff meetings and necessary training.Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS :
Possess a High School Diploma or GED.1 year cleaning experience.Experience working with maintenance and care of machinery.Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.Ability to maintain the laundry equipment to meet the needs of the Navigation Center.Ability for gross and fine finger / hand coordination and manipulation.Ability to complete duties in a timely and satisfactory manner, with strong initiative and an ability to work both independently and cooperatively.Basic math skills.Ability to follow rules and supervisor's instructions.Strong verbal and written English communication skills.Understanding of OSHA safety requirements with regard to maintenance and machinery.Comfort working around a diverse community including LGBTQQ, mental illness and varying racial ethnicities.Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively.Ability to maintain professional boundaries with guests, volunteers and staff.Bilingual desired.Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco.Covid vaccination and negative result on TB test required.
