Summary

The Director of Philanthropy, Planned Giving (Director of PG) is a pivotal leadership position responsible for advancing the planned giving program and securing long-term financial support through legacy giving. Reporting to the Senior Director of PG, the Director of PG will work collaboratively on the development, growth, and strategic path for the planned giving department, thereby advancing Father Joe’s Villages’ immediate and long-term fundraising goals. The Director of PG will implement an integrated marketing strategy for planned giving and build and manage a healthy portfolio of legacy giving donors and prospects. The Director of PG will also have a solid understanding of trusts, estates, and other planned giving vehicles and demonstrable experience with fundraising strategies, including donor research, data analysis, and moves management. 


Essential Functions

    Builds, maintains and expands a robust portfolio that includes prospects in various phases of the donor development cycle, with a focus on planned gifts, including trusts and estates, beneficiary/payable-on-death accounts, life income gifts, and other gift vehicles  

    Collaborates with the Senior Director of PG on developing a strategic, tactical, and relationship-based planned giving program

    Leads and executes donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to secure planned gifts, often in collaboration with the president & CEO, board members, senior directors, and chief philanthropy officer  

    Works closely with the major gifts team and other philanthropy staff to create and implement individual strategies for planned giving prospects and growing the legacy society, including donor proposals and stewardship packages and presentations 

    Maintains ongoing communications with legacy society members, fostering long-term, meaningful relationships and ensuring donor intentions are honored

    Tracks and records donor and estate/trust activity using internal processes and Raiser’s Edge, ensuring all planned giving records are accurate and up-to-date

    Innovates and implements an integrated marketing plan; maintains the planned giving website; prepares content and provides input on planned giving collateral

    Assists in organizing and conducting seminars and events for prospective donors, financial and estate planners, and other key stakeholders                                                                                 

    Trains staff on planned giving strategies, including the benefits, consequences, and tax and financial aspects of planned giving options

    Works collaboratively with trustees, attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals to identify prospects, and effectuate planned gifts

    Analyzes trusts and estates and assists in gift administration once planned gifts are realized

    Serves as a role model for others in the office of philanthropy, taking pride in their work and maintaining standards of excellence, discretion, and teamwork

    Works the Thanksgiving Day 5k, Children’s Charity Gala, Donor Appreciation Event, and other events as assigned

    On-time completion of assigned trainings and policies 

    Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

    Mandatory Education: Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, communications or related field

    Preferred Education: CSPG, CFRE 

    Minimum ten years of nonprofit experience in fundraising, with a minimum of five years in planned giving

    Evidence of the ability to plan and execute a fundraising plan from conception to realization

    Experience working with attorneys, trustees, financial advisors, and related professionals; knowledge of trust, probate, and accounting processes 

    Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills, with a particular care and sensitivity for the elderly

    Must be a self-starter and able to work independently

    Proficient with MS Office products and donor databases; Raiser’s Edge, Asana, and Crescendo experience is a plus

    Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques, including performance management and employee development
