Summary
This position supports the work of licensed clinicians by obtaining vital signs, administering medications and injections, recording information in electronic medical records, preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies, collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing and providing guidance to other Medical Assistants.
Essential Functions
- Cross trains in at least one other area of health center operations, assists in training of new medical assistants.
- Monitors clinic flow, oversees tasks and resolves problems.
- Obtaining and recording patients' vital signs.
- Preparing and administering medications and injections under the direction of licensed clinicians.
- Recording information in electronic medical records.
- Collecting and documenting patients' medical information, including medical history.
- Collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing.
- Prepping exam rooms for clinical procedures and assisting clinicians with patient care.
- Preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies.
- Maintains work spaces such as cleaning and stocking exam rooms.
- Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments.
- Verifies & cancels prescriptions at the pharmacy.
- Scans and faxes documents.
- On time completion of assigned training and policies
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assisting certification.
- CPR/First Aid & AED certified.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant using electronic medical records.
- Basic user of MS Office.
- Be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience; possesses a valid California driver's license; and has no Class 1 or more than two Class 2 violations within the past 36 months (only applies to those involved with the street health program)
- Participate in an annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary.
