Role and Responsibilities
The Store Manager is responsible leading sales and operations of a St. Vincent de Paul Des Moines retail thrift store. This includes sales and profit, policies, procedures, staff development, donation processing, sales floor merchandising, customer service, and data reporting.
Store Managers must continue to advance and teach in donated good objectives and have a strong drive to meet established targets. The Store Manager will possess positive leadership, coaching, and customer service skills.
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
- Accountable to perform and delegate all daily operations in store.
- Ensure that all performance standards are maintained by making sure that all organizational policies and procedures are followed, and immediate action is taken to address deficiencies in following policy and procedures.
- Examine financial statements, sales, daily production reports to measure efficiency and goal achievement.
- Store Managers lead in accounting for accuracy of all cash handling including daily deposits. Deposits are expected to be completed by 9 am and taken to bank daily with a return from bank no later than 9:30 a.m.
- Completion of register and deposit log is expected daily.
- Store Checklists, deposits, and deposit logs to be completed daily and weekly.
- Ability to follow instructions, adhere to policy, and make basic decisions
- Ensure store presentations and intake area organizational standards are being met daily.
- Completion of opening and closing checklist to ensure all above standards are completed.
EXTERNAL/INTERNAL CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT
- Creates and leads by example a positive, productive work environment within entire store.
- Consistently maintain store as clean, safe, respectful, and pleasant environments in which employees work effectively and customers enjoy shopping.
- Professional handling of customer complaints, customer disputes and associate concerns.
- Participate in conduction constructive pre-scheduled meetings to discuss sales, results, updates of mission, and store standards.
- Complete morning professional communication regarding daily goals, previous day results, new promotions.
- Effectively and professionally communicate with employees of all levels
- Maintains staff at store location by orienting to the Society’s mission and principles
- Aids in maintaining store staff job results and morale by coaching, counseling, correcting, encouraging, and recognizing employees at appropriate times.
- Ensure that all employees and facilities follow all federal, state, and local laws
- Positive interaction and experience with all St. Vincent de Paul Des Moines locations, staff, and entities
- Store Managers train and develop staff to meet store standards, excel in production areas, provide positive customer experience.
- Re-direct and refrain from disruptive communication with staff including sharing of information regarding other staff. Store Manager keeps confidential communication with staff and prohibit inappropriate influence from internal and external customers/staff.
- Utilizes knowledge of handbook and holds staff accountable to its policy and procedures.

RESULTS MANAGEMENT
- Leads to drive sales through planned and communicated ideas and execution with weekly and monthly promotions, sales floor presentation, associate knowledge of all events prior to execution, and customer relations.
- Drive Sales through accountability of available merchandise on sales floor by maintaining inventory levels thru associates’ production. Positive coaching of staff to meet store production and maintain inventory on the floor daily. Review of results, sales, and production amount expected daily and communicated to team via daily chat sheet no later 9:30 a.m.
- Holds self-accountable by completing daily store needs regarding accepting and sorting of donations, product production, tagging and merchandising on floor. This is at a minimum of 90% percent of the day. Between 7 am to 6:30 pm
- Dedicated to continuous improvement of all aspects of retail operations in store. Uses training tools to ensure everyone is knowledgeable about roles and accountable for results.
- Demonstrates sense of urgency with the ability to drive and sustain positive change in store, by holding self-accountable to support changes and support team in communication of change.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position manages employees of a Retail Store and is responsible for the positive performance management, hiring, and development of the employees within that location.
