Summary
We are seeking an Early Childhood Associate Teacher to join our team at St. Vincent Early Learning Center. In this role, you will play a vital part in nurturing the educational and emotional development of young children, ensuring they receive a strong foundation for their future learning.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The Associate Teacher assists the Lead Teacher with the culture, management, and oversight of the classroom functions. They provide high quality educational, developmentally appropriate curriculum, aligned with SVELC’s educational philosophy and approach to meet the needs of each child. Additionally, the Associate Teacher will have an understanding and ability to put into practice and advocate for the following guiding principles: culturally and linguistically competent, child and family centered practice; natural learning environments; learner focused approach; and functional and meaningful activities/supports
- Directly responsible for adherence and fidelity to SVELC Classroom Pedagogical Expectations.
- Create a secure and inviting environment which fosters exploration and discovery.
- Encourage children’s curiosity about the world and teach problem solving skills.
- Establish stimulating learning centers, provocations, projects, and invitations in the classroom.
- Make specific preparation to implement school-adopted curriculum, assessments, and approaches.
- Assist with planning and conducting daily activities including preparation of educational materials to meet the needs of individual children and the developmental needs of the group.
- Observe children and maintain anecdotal records regarding their growth, health, behavior and progress; share this information with parents and appropriate personnel.
- Communicate and cooperate with families to meet individual goals for children.
- Alongside the Lead Teacher, conduct parent-teacher conferences twice per year to keep parents informed of their child’s growth and development; lead conferences in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Able to teach multi-aged children in the birth to age five range.
- Guide, supervise and provide for safety of the children in class, the playground, and field trips.
- Ensure that children are properly dressed for outdoor activities.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly indoor/outdoor classroom.
- Assist the Lead Teacher for classroom volunteers, interns, and practicum students and assignment of meaningful tasks.
- Perform other job-related duties requested by supervisor.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with families.
- Ensure all required classroom-related regulations are met at all times.
- Achieve and maintain certification in Teaching Strategies GOLD and regularly input documentation.
- Collect, document, and enter necessary data for child development into required databases as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to create, publish, and refresh documentation of child and classroom research and learning.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Model appropriate professional behavior.
- Maintain and model excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
Education, Experience, Skills
- AA/AS in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
- AA/AS in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten endorsement with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
- AA/AS including at least 15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university
- At least 2 years of early childhood experience
- Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level
- Experience working successfully within and/or supporting a team
- Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills
Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and return to standing.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass physical examination, TB screening, and all background checks as required by regulatory authorities.
- Must complete all required onboarding training.
- Must be able to fulfill all requirements as specified by the State of Indiana or NAEYC, as it applies to early learning licensure or best practice.
- Must align practice, duties, and behaviors to follow the Mission, Vision, Values, Philosophy, and Approach of St. Vincent Early Learning Center.
