TEACHING ASSISTANT, POD SUPPORT
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, Early Learning Operations
SUPERVISES: n/a
STATUS: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Teaching Assistant, Pod Support, serves as a member of the early learning community by supporting a pod, or grouping of two to three classrooms. The Teaching Assistant, Pod Support will have an understanding and ability to put into practice and advocate for the following guiding principles: Reggio Emilia inspired pedagogy; culturally and linguistically competent, child and family centered practice; natural learning environments; learner focused approach; functional and meaningful activities/supports; observation and documentation strategies; and operation from a systems perspective.
· Collaborate with Lead and Associate Teachers from the assigned group of classrooms.
· Build relationships with the children, families, and colleagues from each designated classroom.
· Assumes the responsibilities of the classroom teachers during times of coverage.
· Facilitate and provide daily planning time to each assigned classroom.
· Facilitate and provide weekly collaboration time to each assigned teaching team.
· Help create a secure environment that invites learning and engagement through exploration
and discovery.
· Work cooperatively, as a team with other colleagues to provide classroom coverage for
designated classrooms for absences under 3 hours.
· Negotiate and facilitate small group opportunities when requested within classrooms.
· Maintain and share a weekly calendar showing time allotment between classrooms with
Assistant Director, Early Learning Operations
· Facilitate and communicate schedule openings and revisions in weekly calendar.
· Maintain a work schedule that supports the needs of the designated classrooms.
· Actively engage, observe, and document children’s work.
· Achieve and maintain certification in Teaching Strategies GOLD and regularly input documentation.
· Demonstrates and maintains professionalism.
· Maintain confidentiality.
· Model appropriate professional behavior.
· Maintain and model excellent attendance and punctuality.
· Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
· High School Diploma
· CDA Credential, strongly preferred
· One year of experience in early education
· Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level
· Ability to communicate and interact with diverse audiences
· Experience working successfully within and/or supporting a team
· Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills
REQUIREMENTS
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and return to standing.
· Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
· Must pass physical examination, TB screening, and all background checks as required by regulatory authorities.
· Must complete all required onboarding training.
· Must be able to fulfill all requirements as specified by the State of Indiana or NAEYC, as it applies to early learning licensure or best practice.
· Must align practice, duties, and behaviors to follow the Mission, Vision, Values, Philosophy, and Approach of St. Vincent Early Learning Center.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $13.82 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
