Medical Assistant- Full-time position in clinic 8-hour day shift.

- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Medical Assisting certification, national or registered preferred
- One (1) year of healthcare experience (Pre-hospital, Emergency Department, or Clinic), preferred
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems
- Basic management software knowledge preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
The medical assistant's role is to provide direct and indirect patient care in collaboration with the health center's clinical team. Meeting the needs of the patient population under the direct supervision of a provider and/or the clinic director. Medical assistants are vital to the patient’s healthcare team and will accept appropriate delegation and direction from providers to meet the patients' needs. Medical assistants must have a team-oriented personality with peers and providers and good communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends
- Assists with ensuring quality payment metrics are met.
- Acts as a liaison between the hospital and local/consulting provider offices to foster cooperative relationships and problem-solves issues regarding the clinic
- Demonstrates effective use of clinical strategies to ensure patient and team member safety.
- Accurately and timely document all tasks, observations, and procedures performed in the patient record according to medical and legal standards.
- Maintains thorough and confidential patient charts and records.
- Communicates with colleagues and allied personnel regarding patient care to maintain continuity of care between departments and care providers.
- Facilitates room turnover between patients, stocking, and exchanging supplies in the RHC.
- Ensures RHC work environment and patient rooms are neat and free of clutter.
- Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment and supplies to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care and monitoring.
- Abide must abide by all Policies and Procedures that apply to RHC and St. Vincent Health.
- The Medical Assistant must participate in staff and educational meetings.
- Uses Rural Health Clinic and hospital Guidelines of care, hospital policies/procedures and regulatory guidelines to guide work within scope of practice.
- Responsible for reporting unusual symptoms, observations, patient requests and/or their families’ requests.
- Identify safety needs of patients and answer calls, inquiries, and messages promptly per policy and procedures.
- Fill in at the front desk when needed.
- Support employee health as needed
- Supporting specialty clinics as needed
Medical Assistant may also be responsible for several clinical activities under the supervision of RHC Providers. Competencies for these tasks shall be verified and signed off by RHC’s Medical Director. These tasks may include:
- Drawing blood.
- Taking vitals
- Taking a medical history
- Medication reconciliation
- Giving injections
- Applying and changing dressings.
- Working in the RHC lab
- Obtain observations of the patient's health and report them to the provider.
- Maintaining health records of the patient and producing it, whenever necessary.
- Collecting urine samples and sending them for diagnosis.
- Assist the Provider and RHC team with patient care
- Helping providers with medication refills, calls to patients.
